How do Ideals of Beauty Relate to Gender Roles? - Giuliana Helm - Term Paper (Advanced seminar) - English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography - Publish your bachelor's or master's thesis, dissertation, term paper or essay. Youth Culture and the Social Construction of Gender. This research explores in greater depth some of the socio-cultural aspects arising from a four-year project on the gender gap in education, funded by the then Department for Education and Skills. Gender definition is - a subclass within a grammatical class (such as noun, pronoun, adjective, or verb) of a language that is partly arbitrary but also partly based on distinguishable characteristics (such as shape, social rank, manner of existence, or sex) and that determines agreement with and selection of other words or grammatical forms.

Gender roles are a set of standards which impose expectations on the behavior of men and women. These norms for socially appropriate behavior vary from culture to culture and change over time. Some of the gender differences are biological but others are a product of socialization experiences. Gender equality is an important priority for UNESCO’s work on heritage, creativity and cultural diversity. The equal participation, access and contribution to cultural life of women and men are human rights as well as cultural rights, and an important dimension for guaranteeing freedom of expression for all.
